Disclaimer: The following calculations are based on Faraday's Laws and apply to pure metals, under perfect conditions, with simple electrolyte reactions. However, these calculations may still be useful for estimating parameters such as Average Depth and amount of Material Removed in many cases. For example, etching copper alloys using sodium chloride will be very close. However, etching stainless steel using oxalic acid will be off by a factor of 2 or 3.
